About Original Filipino Recipe Blog

Original Filipino recipe blog is all about popular pinoy recipe. It is created to provide different Filipino food that we pinoys love through the time. It is your online source of traditional Filipino food for your day to day recipe. The food recipe provided here is just a typical menu for us Filipino unlike with some cooking procedure that been shown in Philippine television show that seems complicated for average Filipino just like us. You could find here some Filipino regional menu that has become acceptable for pinoy in different part of the country. I will try to update this blog with the best  of my effort. I also want to apologize if you find some grammatically error on my post. I am just an average Filipino, born and raised in the Philippines and please do understand my limitation.

Insight on Food Industry in the Philippines

Filipinos are known for their fondness with different kinds of food, it is very obvious that food industry has become a major industry. A best example of booming food industry in the Philippines is when Jollibee corporation become one of top 10 corporation  in the Philippines. Aside from Jollibee, San Miguel Corporation and other respected corporation in the Philippines venture into food supply business which prove how big the industry was. Just think of 100 million Philippine population and we could always imagine how big market was. Aside from those big food business, we could also noticed some small carinderia or even a food cart that offers street food to cater craving for food fo average Filipino.

Philippine Food Supply:

Philippines is an archipelago country, compose of 7,107 island sorrounded by seas and vast ocean that makes seafoods as one ot the most popular food for every Filipino. Seafoods such as grouper, pampano, mackerel, shellfish , etc...could be either be caught on seas but some some could be culture in Fish cages such as in Dagupan, Taal lake, Bulacan, Laguna de Bay. Bangus, Tilapia, Hito or African catfish, tiger prawn are just some of the seafoods that can be cultured and some of those seafoods product are exported outside the country. Aside from seafoods, beef, pork, poultry meat has become a part for day to day meal for every Filipino, Philippine meat requirement are either be locally produce or imported because of globalization. Phillipines is also blessed to be a tropical country that makes as self sufficient with regards to vegetable. Benguet province is known as the salad capital of the Philippines for producing vegetable such as carrots, cabbage, peas, chayote, lettuce and a lots more. Low lands provinces produces, vegetable such as eggplant, ocra, string bean, ampalaya and a lots more.

Foreign Influences on Filipino Recipe

Philippine cuisines is a mixture of different cooking style and recipes from other country. Major influences are from Spanish , Chinese and American . Spain which is our mother country as they are the one that discover our country, their major influences includes introducing Christianity and of course some of their recipe such as mechado, morcon, arroz ala cubana and a lots. Chinese has also share their some of their food recipe and among them are chopsuey, vegetable roll, lumpiang shanghai, sweet and sour (fish or pork) mami at siopao and a lots more and by the American by introducing hamburger and barbeque to Filipino people.

Bicolano's Famous Delectable Food

Bicol region or Bicolandia is one off different region in the Philippines and found on Southeastern portion of Luzon. Bicol region is so pupular among their food and tourist spots area, among them is Mayon  which is an active volcano and known for its perfect cone shape, Cagsawan ruins, Busay falls and a lots more. But Bicol popularity also extends with their traditional foods which becomes famous allthrough out the Philippines, their local food has become a day to day filipino recipe in every home. Laing or pinangat could be the most popular on the list of Bicolano food. I was born and raised in Metro Manila but cultural, language, and geographical differences and distance is not a hindrance for loving such flavorful spicy laing. Aside from laing recipe, Bicol express is another delicious Bicolano recipe, just like its brother Laing recipe, it also cook from coconut milk with red hot chilli. Kinunot or Kinunot recipe is another delicious filipino food, I personally cook kinunot for my husband as he likes it so much as a pulutan when his drinking some beer with a friend. I usually used stingray for cooking kinunot but in Bicol they also use shark as an alternative, I think now a days fishing shark is already prohibited in our country because their number is decreasing rapidly. List of Chinese Recipe That Become so Popular for Filipino



Historically, Filipino people befriend people from neighboring. Even before Ferdinand Magellan discover Philippines people from Malaysia, Indonesia and even China frequently visit Philippines to exchange trades with early Filipino. One of the main product that Chinese traders trades with early Filipino is their spices that become so popular during that time.

Now a days, Chinese culture is very evident and become a part of Filipino society,  you could always find Chinese temple and some are become famous tourist spot in the Philippines, there is even a place in downtown Manila known as China town and you could find there anything  in regards with Chinese products or about their culture. You could find in China town some authentic  Chinese restaurant that offers original Chinese recipe. Chinese food is so popular among us and their recipe become a part of day to day Filipino recipe. Here is my list of all time Filipino favorite Chinese food.

Chopsuey : Chopsuey  is a mix vegetable recipe, it could be stir fry or sautéed and cook along with meat recipe. When I was still in Canada I am surprised that Chopsuey is offered in one of restaurant there but one thing is more surprising is when I found out that the main vegetable use is mongo sprout.
Sweet and Sour Fish or Pork : Neither fish or pork can be cook for sweet and sour as  there is a lot of t variation for cooking  sweet and sour recipe. Filipinos usually prepare fish (Grouper) sweet and during special occasion especially during wedding ceremony not only for the flavor it offer but for also for table presentation.

Siopao and Mami : For merienda, in my opinion nothing can topple mami and siopao in terms of popularity. It is my personal favorite and I prefer beef wanton noodles and Siopao bola bola. Mamon luk is a popular Chinese mami and siopao house in Metro Manila. Another popular restaurant that offer delicious  mami and siopao is Pintsik (short for pinoy(Filipino) and intsik (Chinese) ) along Recto avenue at Manila.

Tofo or Tokwa (Bean curd): It is a popular Filipino food ingredient that is Chinese in origin, we usually use tofu for Totso recipe (another Chinese fish recipe), as a viand for lugaw (Filipino style congee). It is so popular that tofu has become a day to day ingredient in Filipino Recipe.

Kikiam :  Before Chinese kikkiam is just being offered in popular Chinese restaurant but now a days it is usually offer in every corner in Metro Manila as a street food.

Pancit Bihon (Chow mein) : Even though pansit is truly a original Chinese food it becomes an all time favorite for every Filipino. It is usually prepare for mid day snacks, birthday or any special gathering for Filipino family.

Chicken Adobo With Coconut Milk

Adobo is one of the most popular filipino food that can be cook in a lot of variation, everybody loves it so much that aside from cooking it in a traditional method Filipino are always searching for another variation for preparing this awesome filipino recipe. Here is another method of cooking that you try and i am sure that it will suit with our Filipino taste.

Adobo Ingredient:

  • 1 kg of chicken , cut into serving size
  • 2-3 tsp cooking oil
  • 2-3 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 cup of soysauce
  • 3/4 cup of vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp ground peppercorn
  • 1 glass of coconut cream
  • 1/2 can of small liver spread
  • 1 potato, quartered, peeled  and wash
  • vetsin
  • salt to taste
  • 3-4 pcs siling labuyo  (optional)
Chicken Adobo with Coconut Milk Procedure of Cooking:

  • In  pan with cooking oil, fry garlic a little and add chicken and simmer for 5 minute
  • Add soy sauce, vinegar, ground peppercorn.
  • Bring to boil and add potato.
  • Simmer until the broth almost completely dry.
  • Add coconut cream, siling labuyo, vetsin, salt if needed and  simmer until the sauce decreases by halves. Thickend with liver spread to add flavor.

Filipino Spaghetti Recipe

Just like anywhere else, Filipino has its own version of cooking a popular food known as spaghetti, this is a popular dish not just for merienda but also during special occasion. I always make spaghetti for my kids love it so much. Here is my version preparing spaghetti, Pinoy style.

Spaghetti Ingredient:

  • 1 kg Ground Beef
  • 2 Tbsp of minced garlic
  •  1 pc onion chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 bottle of banana catsup (320 grans)
  • 1 pack of filipino style spaghetti sauce (medium)
  • Spaghetti Noodles 1 kg ( Royal)
  • Cheese 1 box
  • Red bell pepper sliced
  • margarine or butter
  • Whole button mushroom  sliced
  • Vetsin
  • sugar, pepper, sallt
Procedure for cooking spaghetti sauce:

  • Saute garlic and onion using butter or margarine
  • add ground pork and fish sause cover and simmer until it renders oil from the fat, fry a little bit
  • add 1/2 cup af water to cook
  • When the water drys add banana catsup and spaghetti style spaghetti sauce and simmer while mixing
  •  add whole button mushroom and red bell pepper
  • add 3 or more tbsp sugar (to taste), ground pepper, vestin, and salt to taste
Preparing Spaghetti Noodles
  • Boil water on a big pot just enough to contain noodles
  • add 2 Tbsp of oil and salt
  • Add spaghetti noodles and let it boil briskly while continously mixing for 10 minute
  • When done, drain water using strainer and rinse with cold water to avoid over cooking
  • Drain thoroughly
How to Prepare Spaghetti

  • Place spaghetti noodle on a plate
  • Top with spaghetti sauce just enough to cover noodles
  • Garnish with grated cheese at the top and served hot.
