Pesang Isda Recipe

Pesang isda is a well known filipino fish recipes, it is a stew of fish (bangus, tilapia, lapu lapu, maya maya) which has a big similarity with filipino food -nilaga. In cooking pesa i always prefer using big fish stated above but if my budget permit i would rather use lapu lapu (Grouper) or maya maya(red snapper) insted of tilapia and Bangus for more flavorful and tasty. Anyway if you like to try one of Filipino fish recipe here's how i prepare easy fish recipes - pesang isda.


  • 1 kg of lapu lapu or maya maya, cleaned and slice into serving pcs (Bangus and tilapia can be used either)
  • 1 litre of water
  • 50 grams of ginger, skinned
  • 1 tbsp of peppercorn
  • 1 bunch of petchay (Chinese cabbage), cut into halves
  • 200 gram of Repolyo (cabbage), slice
  • 3 pcs potato, skinned, quarter and wash
  • Vetsin
  • Salt to taste
Cooking Preparation for Pesang Isda

In a casserole, boiled 1 liter of water with ginger, peppercorn,potato. Add fish and simmer for 15 minute. Lastly, include petchay, cabbage, vetsin and salt to taste. Served this filipino fish recipe while the broth is hot with patis and calamansi along with steamy white rice.
