Tahong na Guisado with Sabaw

Tahong is a popular seafoods in Phillipines . Going to Cavite along coastal road you could always seen people selling tahong (mussels)and oyster wholesale in a crates.But we dont have to buy a lots just to cook tahong as it was available in every market in Philippines and the price is very affordable. Any way here is my method  for  cooking this tahong recipe soup.


  • 1 kg of tahong (mussels), washed thoroughly in a bowl
  • 2-3 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2-3 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 whole onion, sliced
  • 2-3 thumb size ginger, skin and julienne
  • 3 cups of water
  • 24 tbsp patis
  • 1 bundle chili leaves (dahon ng sili), washed and separate leaves from stalk

Procedure of Cooking

In a heated pan with cooking oil, sautee garlic, onion, ginger and add tahong. Pour in patis and cover and simmer for 5-7  minute.Check if the mussels open then add water, and bring to boil and simmer for another 3 minute. Lastly add vetsin, salt to taste and include dahon ng sili. Served tahong recipe soup along with white steamy rice.
